St. John's Community Thrift Store was founded as an outreach ministry of St. John's Community Episcopal Church and The Center for Inner Peace.
in downtown New London.
Since opening in May of 2002, we have seen God work in many wonderful ways. The store itself is a place where God's ministry takes place on a daily basis. Our customers continuously compliment us on the quality of our goods and the friendliness with which they are greeted.
Thrift Store Sponsors Help To The Local Area
The Thrift Store has donated funds to area schools to be used at the discretion of counselors and teachers for children who do not have the school supplies they need. With this money, teachers purchase backpacks, crayons, paper, and other items necessary for the children's education.
Proceeds raised by the Thrift Store have provided over 25 mattresses to the growing Hispanic families coming to New London to live. In addition, a box-spring and mattress set went to a young pregnant woman who had been sleeping on the floor. These families come with very few possessions into a climate that is quite different from which they are accustomed. In addition to mattresses, the Thrift Store has provided food, clothing and blankets to these needy families.
The Thrift Store has also purchased and distributed Christmas gifts and food boxes to several families in New London. Personnel at the Thrift Store remain in close contact with school counselors and teachers who refer families in need to the Thrift Store.
In the Fall of 2003, St. John's Resource Center opened its' doors at 209 S. Pearl St. in New London. St. John's Community Thrift Store maintains rent and utilities for the Resource Center. In addition, the Thrift Store provides all the funds needed to purchase food for St. John's Food Pantry located in the Resource Center. Many families are offered food each week at the Food Pantry.
Most recently, the Thrift Store has added subsidized counseling to its list of community outreach services. Subsidized counseling is offered to those who could not otherwise receive counseling due to financial restrictions. Counseling services are provided by a Nationally Certified Professional Counselor with a Master's degree from an accredited University. Counseling sessions are held at The Center For Inner Peace. If you would like more information about the subsidized counseling services, contact Julie Feider at
920-982-2289.
Since St. John's Community Thrift Store opened in 2002, we are in awe of the tremendous work God is doing through this store and the many volunteers who help make it happen. This ministry is touching the lives of so many people! If you would like to be a part of this awesome ministry and help touch the lives of many, contact Wendy Nelson (Manager) at 920-982-4141.
